Rob Cart, handcrafted furniture

Rob creates pieces large and small. Skilled in the artisan techniques of fine woodworking, he builds furniture designed to last.

Rob believes that centuries-old fine furniture survives for primarily two reasons. First, the furniture was made in a manner that allows for repair. Second, the pieces were useful and built to sustain use.

Most production furniture made today has limited structural design. Instead of hand fitting individual components, joinery is often a compromise of what can consistently be done by machines on an assembly line. These high-volume construction methods are usually adequate for short-term structural integrity. But they are not designed for the long term, especially when subjected to daily use.

Rob's joinery techniques and structural design methods come from years of studying early furniture construction and restoring antiques. His pieces are heirloom quality designed for use today and well into the future.

All the pieces presented here were custom made to fit each client's needs.
